What are the Fuwa?
The Fuwa are the official mascots for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. There are five members, according to the traditional five elements and each member takes its color from one of the five Olympic rings. When the first syllable of each of their names is put together, you get, "Beijing huanying ni", which means, "Beijing welcomes you".

Beibei: Beibei is a blue, female Chinese sturgeon, representing the element of water. Beibei is gentle and pure and symbolizes prosperity. She represents the water sports.

Jingjing: Jingjing is a black, male, giant panda, representing the element of wood. Jingjing is honest and optimistic and symbolizes happiness. He represents the sports of weightlifting, judo, etc...

Huanhuan: Huanhuan is a red, male Olympic flame, representing the element of fire. Huanhuan is extroverted and enthusiastic and symbolizes passion. He represents the ball sports.

Yingying: Yingying is a yellow, male Tibetan antelope, representing the element of Earth. Yingying is lively and vivacious and symbolizes health. He represents track and field.

Nini: Nini is a green, female swallow, representing the element of sky. Nini is innocent and joyous and symbolizes good fortune. She represents gymnastics.
